Alternate Ending
A great alternate ending would be that if Curley’s wife got murdered by Lennie, he ran to George and told him about the entire ordeal. George, being the protective companion he is, would help Lennie out and hide the body in the hay inside the barn until everyone was asleep, just so they could dispose of the body late at night without anyone knowing. As they carry the body to the river, to drop it off, Crooks wakes up to use the washroom and get some fresh air, and notices Lennie and George carry the body to the river. Crooks quickly runs and wakes everyone up. Carlson runs out with his gun and starts yelling at George and Lennie, Lennie gets scared and makes a sudden movement at gun range and gets shot down, George drops the body in the river and jumps in himself.
George swims fast and far as Carlson runs into the house to grab more ammo to reload. When George gets out of the river on the other side, he feels as if he lost his best friend and is now a fugitive on the run. As he looks back to the ranch on the other side of the river, he notices some movement in Lennie’s body. “You’re Alive, Alive!” George yells out really loud to Lennie, and starts to swim back to the other side to save him. Carlson notices the move George makes, and tell everyone to go in the house, as he waits for George to swim over to the other side. Just as George gets to the other side, Carlson jumps out of a bush and shoots him to death.
