Watching television is one of the most popular pastimes in the world. Almost all children do so; some even take the liberty of slipping out of bed unnoticed at night just to watch a show that they like. However, what most people do not realize is that television can ruin your eyesight, cause lack of concentration and can also inculcate many bad habits, especially in young ones. Television and video games can be very addictive that waste a lot of valuable time which can be used on something else that will help them in the future. Most shows shown on the television nowadays involve bright color. According to the media, the brighter the picture, the better it is. But doctors feel the contrary. Television can be bad depending what shows people watch but video games are just violence that does not teach anything important in life. With all these bad effects it shows that TV and video games make people dumber and causes damage to one's health. Watching television is a waste of time. When students are watching television excessively, they are less likely to be spending time doing homework or reading, participating in after school activities, or being engaged in other intellectually stimulating activities in which they are active participants. Children, if not guided and monitored properly, may experience some adverse effects of watching television. For example, they may spend too much time watching television and fail to keep up with their academic work. Prolonged TV viewing and incorrect viewing practices like sitting too close to the television or keeping the TV room poorly illuminated, may pose certain health hazards like impairing eye sight. There is also a possibility of children being exposed to and influenced by the offensive and objectionable content that has become common on television nowadays. Viewing extreme violence and abusive content may prompt children to take up similar activities.
