Welcome to the Heartland International Museum of Art!   This is a brief guidebook the Heartland International Museum of Art. In this museum you will visit some of the artwork from some of the best artists of the whole world. Artists from the Renaissance, Baroque, Gothic, and Modern times; also from the 13th Century up to the 20thCentury.   Sculpture: Gian Lorenzo Bernini   {draw:frame}   Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) is considered one of, it not the greatest sculptor of the 17thcentury. He is credited with the creation of high baroque energy and strength (“Bernini, Gian Lorenzo”). The way he captured expressions, textures, and movementwas incredible. Born in Naples, Bernini was first taught by his father, Pietro Bernini, who was quite talented, himself. However, even with his father being as talented as he was, Gian Lorenzo surpassed his father in excellence. In his earlier sculptures, Bernini was inspired by more classical and mythological art. As time went on, he did more work with much more drama and emotion. While working on a commissioned work of David at the age of twenty-four, Bernini’s close friend Cardinal Maffeo Barbarini was elected pope, opening new doors for the already successful sculptor (Kristof).   Gian Lorenzo Bernini had a very long and successful career. He remained active and productive until near his death, which was days before his eighty-second birthday. Throughout his career, Bernini used exceptional skills of hand, mind, and spirit. His contribution to the Counter-Reformation religious art consisted in his ability to make the experience of the spectator very real.   Painting: Raphael   {draw:frame}   In the Vatican papal apartments is where Raphael painted his most famous painting, School of Athens. In the center, there is Plato and Aristotle in red and blue, respectively.
