Abortion: To Keep Legal or Not Keep Legal?
A young girl discovers she is pregnant due to a lack of sex education and maturity.   In a state of distress, she ponders her options.   Could abortion be right for her?     Many women face this same critical decision, but under different circumstances.   Examples of various circumstances could be as hideous as rape.   Abortion is a very sensitive issue in our society today; “ The term “abortion” actually refers to any premature expulsion of a human fetus, whether naturally spontaneous, as in a miscarriage, or artificially induced, as in a surgical or chemical abortion” (“Defining”).   As of now, a woman has the right to carry through a pregnancy, or to abort the fetus carried within her body.   Pro-life groups and Pro-Choice group’s opinions vary tremendously on this topic.  
Pro-life supporters believe that the developing fetus is a unique human being at the moment fertilization occurs, which is the time all the chromosomes or “blueprint” of the individual is determined.   In other words, a human person is established right away.   Human person is defined as “Any form of human life that is also considered a person, and thereby has civil rights, including the right to life” (“Abortion”).   Their goal is to protect the life of the developing child in all cases; the cases include rape, incest, and even when the pregnant woman’s life is at stake.   To Pro-life groups, both lives are considered equally important.   The fetus does not get to decide under what conditions it is conceived; so it should not have its life ended due to a mistake made by the mother or father.
However, Pro-Choice supporters believe that a fetus does not become a human person until it is able to function or is “viable” outside of the womb.   They believe that a woman has the right to determine whether or not she desires to have a baby, especially in cases of rape where sexual relations are forced upon a woman.   If a woman was forced to carry through a rape...
