My Addiction to Video Games
I have experienced a lot of entertainment that is addicting in my life, nothing more so, than video games. For me, it started off with my first computer, a Commodore 64. Then, I progressed to owning every Nintendo console system, from the first NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) to the current Nintendo Wii. I have also owned every console the Sega company created and all three Playstation consoles. I have spent countless hours in front of a television interacting with my videogames. Playing video games is somewhat soothing to me because I can escape reality, even if it is just for a couple hours, it is a couple hours spent away from my everyday life. When I complete a task or challenge, while playing video games, it gives me a sense of accomplishment. In the gaming world, you can make mistakes and do them over because with the push of the reset button, everything in the virtual world renews itself. I also like the fact that I can be somebody else in another world, almost like a fantasy that I control with my hands. Video gaming is my one true vise in my life. I feel video gaming is addicting because of the challenges the games bring me, the chance to escape my everyday life, the place where I can undo my mistakes, and where some of my fantasies come true.
When I start playing video games I obtain a sense of relief because I can escape my reality. It allows me to become a plumber that just happens to have the skills to save princesses or the star running back of the San Diego Chargers. Where school and work become monotonous, video games offer so many different options. For an adult like me that deals with deadlines from professors that want essays written or a boss wanting to know where his lost files are placed is stressful. But the games I play, don’t care when I finish my job. The world revolves around me and the actions that I execute.
