Roger Caron book review

Summary
The story started off mainly concentrating on the main character, Roger Caron who was also the author of the book and his experiences as a child as well as in the prison system. He starts off talking about his time in jail and all the “war scares”(p4) that he had. Roger then is released from jail a joyful man looking for a seconded chance at freedom. Just a few words later the story takes as back in time to Rogers childhood. This part of the story mentioned his father a great deal, who was a man who committed crimes but always had a good reason for breaking the law. The story afterward went back to present day (1969). Roger left prison and became a good, hard working and honest gentleman. One day a few months after his release he gets a call offering him a job in Toronto. He makes it to Toronto and then is told that there was no job just a robbery in mind. Roger refused and demanded he be driven home; the cops stopped the car and after finding guns behind the drivers seat, arrested both individuals. Roger then is taken into a back room in a police station were he is harshly beaten by the police who are trying to get a confession out of him for planning the robbery. He dosent confess and is taken to jail to await his court date. When Rogers court date finaly came he was found not guilt for weapons chargers but for planning the robbery he was found guilty. He appealed the verdict and was sent to Kingston penitentiary to wait for his appeal. The riot didn’t start till chapter 9 before this point Roger used up pages talking about his friends in the penitentiary and the cruel treatment that the prisoners where receiving from the guards. Billy Knight and his followers started the planed attack on the guards. Many people were beaten and killed during the riot. The riot ended 4 days later peacefully with all the hostages being released safely. Roger got his appeal and ended up leaving the prison.
