Germany Vs Iraq
Given the economic environment here in Iraq, is it fair to make comparisons with the end of the Second World War in Germany? Given the economic environment in Iraq right now, I would say that it is not fair to make comparisons with the end of WWII in Germany. WIIera Germany had a very thriving industrial background prior to and during the war. Not only did they have a very advanced industrial nation, they had ports, factories, transportation, raw resources, and most importantly an established trade history with other parts of the world. In contrast to Iraq, who has very little by the way of natural resources except for oil, the two countries are very much on two different economic playing fields both before and after the wars had begun. The country of Iraq was not a major world power and therefore can not reap the benefits of many technological advances in contrastto the capabilities of Germany. Iraq does not have a very advanced process of drilling, established pipelines, or refineries. The country has been largely reliant on other countries (through private contracts) to ‘harvest’ their wealth, which largely has not gone to the people of Iraq, but to the benefit of a few. This is very different from what the country of Germany had to deal with in the aftermath of WWII. After the war, Germany still had the established ‘know how’ to kick production back into gear. The only area that the countryreally lacked was the infrastructure to actually accomplish that shift. The lack of German infrastructure was largely due to the fact that a vast percentage of their ports, railroads, mines, and factories had been damaged in one shape or form and the country did not have the ability to repair them as needed without assistance via funds from other countries. The second major setbackwas man power. The majority of the German working class that had died was a result of casualties of being a Soldier or due to the strategic bombing and fire bombing by US and British forces on...
