How The United States Has Changed
o What information about race and ethnicity in the United States has helped you better understand or relate to specific minority groups?
o Have you learned something new about your own cultural history?
o Trends in immigration will continue to shape the face of the United States. What will this face look like in the year 2050?
o How can the country best prepare for the changing race and ethnicity of its current and future citizens?
The first valuable piece of information that I received about race and ethnicity is not to believe every stereo type about a minority group. I am considered a minority as well, and I hate it when others stereotype me as an African American. Statistics can be a tricky thing to go by and some statistics may be true to a certain extent. However, I feel that it is not right to judge a person, until you have the privilege of meeting them. I wouldn’t say that I learned something new about my own cultural history. On the other hand, I feel that I learned new views, opinions and statistics of how people perceive African Americans to be.
I have witness many changes in the United States from music, culture, religion and so forth. I am actually scared to imagine what changes will occur in the year 2050. Probably in the year 2050 I think U.S we will be big ball of different races and nationalities. It is still a shock to me to say my President is black, which is a beautiful thing. So I can only imagine what we have in store in the year 2050. In my opinion the best way for the country to prepare for the changes is try to stay opened minded and let God lead the way.
