The United States Has Declared War On Its Own People.
In this paper, this writer will be discussing the topic of the legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes. The way this writer will inform readers of the steps that need to be taken in order for this action to happen will be discussing why it is illegal at the present time. This writer will be addressing the issue of drugs that are already legal for medicinal use if deemed so by a physician, where the federal government will not intervene. Additionally this writer will be discussing how the federal government has intervened in the care giving of patients; and inflicting immense hardships on physicians and patients by not allowing the states to govern themselves, a Constitutional right. This writer requests that everyone read this paper with an open heart and mind.
According to the office of diversion control there are currently 128 drugs, or substances that make up the drugs on the schedule 1 list. A great deal of these drugs and substances need to be on the list. The names of the drugs that stand out to this writer as most well-known are: heroin, synthetic heroin, ecstasy, china white, LSD, mescaline, also known as peyote, and psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms, and of, course marijuana (DOJ).
There are 67 substances that are currently on the schedule II list. Of the 67 there are some that may surprise everyone. As stated in the reading above in order for the drug to be classified as a schedule two drug, the drug or other substance has to have a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, or a currently accepted medical use with severe restrictions. The drugs that catch this writer’s eye immediately are: PCP, Cocaine, Methadone, Methamphetamine, also known as speed, and Opium (DOJ).
