Persuasive Speech
Underground hip-hop is better than mainstream hip-hop
Why is it that every hip-hop song you hear on the radio is about getting laid, getting drunk, or getting money? Why no more do you hear about the struggles in the hood and the every-day fight to survive just to get some milk home? Why must each new rapper introduce himself as the best rather than allowing the public to lay judgement upon him? It is because they are fake and unworthy of the title. Because they have to pay to get their songs played on the radio - which is why we hear the same song every hour like a scheduled commercial broadcast. It is because they have nothing to offer to the world and they know it.
I. Underground hip-hop does not dillute or pretend to be something it's not.
1. In mainstream hip-hop, artists often get into the industry by rapping about having lots of money when they may in fact - not have any, but by saying they do, people will be drawn to that fake lifestyle they talk about and buy their music, making them rich.
II. Mainstream hip-hop has to actually pay radio stations to play their songs
1. They know that people will not seek out their music because it is not anything special to go and look for.
2. If they were as good as they rap about would they really have to pay people to listen to their music?
III. Mainstream hip-hop gives real hip-hop some a reputation.
1. Most of the "big bass" antics that most grumpy old men complain about are applied to mainstream hip-hop, encouraging "wow" thump effects to keep the listener from paying attention to what the artist is actually saying. Underground's music compositions are lighter and mostly simpler melodies to allow more focus on what the rapper is rhyming about.
2. All that lyrics that most people complain about and say is a bad influence on young minds are strongly and dramatically done in mainstream hip-hop.
3. Underground hip-hop's lyrics only depict and show...
