Conserving Energy
It is very important to conserve energy,
When energy is produced from non-renewable fuels, to heat our homes or power our cars for example, pollutants are released into the air contaminating the air we breathe and water too. The more energy we use or miles we drive in our cars, the more energy power plants must produce or gasoline our cars burn, releasing more pollutants into the air. All of us use energy every day – for entertainment, cooking, transportation, lighting, heating and cooling homes, manufacturing, etc. We consume a lot of energy. The United States consumes about one fourth of the world’s energy resources.
Renewable resources are materials that come from a source, which cannot theoretically run out. Corn syrup is a good example. Corn syrup comes from corn, which can be renewed by planting new corn plants once the corn has been harvested to make the corn syrup. Paper is another good example. It is made from trees, when one tree is cut down to be made into paper, another tree can be planted in its place to make more paper.
Non- renewable resources are resources, which are limited and cannot be reproduced by any processes humans can intervene with. Oil is a good example. Oil comes from organic matter, which has gone through certain geologic processes over millions and millions of years. Once all the oil on the earth has been consumed, it cannot be reproduced anymore. Gold is another good example. Gold is an element, meaning that is’ not made by any process at all, its chemical makeup is at its most basic form, we can’t, produce it by any means. Once all the gold on the earth has been mined, we cannot get any more gold from the earth.
