Executive summary
This research studies Reducing traffic congestion by extending the Dubai Metro railway system, by linking the railway network from Dubai to Sharjah. The UAE has witnessed a phenomenal growth both in its economy and its population. This has lead to a major increase in the number of vehicles on the road, resulting in major traffic congestion and accidents. The road in public transport infrastructure has not been able to keep pace with the rapid development. Traffic is a major concern for all those living in the Emirates, this problem could be greatly reduced by the implementation of the Dubai Metro and its extension to Sharjah.
The main question our research seeks to answer is, would the Metro rail connection between Dubai and Sharjah be an efficient and effective alternative mode of transportation in order to serve the commuters? We have found that the Metro would increase the convenience of the target market, the positive effect on the overall environment, air quality in particular. Also, we found that to a great extent the metro would be effective as an affordable mode of mass transportation for commuter in the two Emirates.
