Education for Women in Southeast Asia

      For many centuries, in many countries around the world, especially in Asia countries, males and females did not have the same rights. Males have more rights than women do. But, in some countries, in the West they have changes that tradition. Most countries allow women to be in the public. But, in most Asia countries, they still go with that that culture; women have to walk behind men. In the old days, people thought men are the head of the family, and believe men have to work outside to support the family.

      In most Asia countries, there are not many women in higher education. Conservative families prefer to send their daughters to all women universities and college. This school helps women get the training to help develop their leadership skill without pressure from a male dominated society (Licuanan). With the exception of Sri Lanka, women’s schooling is still poorly developed. “At the primary level, the female-to-male enrollment ratio is only 47-52 in Nepal and Pakistan and 7d1-79 in India and Bangladesh. The enrollment ratios are lower at the secondary school level” (Edwards). According on that fact, in order to make the value of the family higher, parents always support sons to go to school, and daughters have to stay at home and take care of all the house work. Parents believe it is no use for women to get an education; they thought it’s just a waste of time and money and that she cannot use it for anything; all she need to do is stay at home and do house work. Usually, in Asia, the son has to stay with parents after they are married. Because women have to live with their husbands, so parents think that if their sons have a good career, they can depend on their son and have a good life. On the other hand, daughters have to live with their husbands, so she cannot do anything good for the parents. “If they have matter of investment, they will send their sons to continue their education at the university...
