Gay Marriage

Marriage is a romantic agreement between two people to obtain rights as a couple , regardless of sex and race.
Many articles have been written in favor and against same-sex marriages, proving that the gay marriage is a very controversial and important issue. Research that I have done about gay marriages proves that the gay marriage issue had an effect on the outcome of the 2004 election It also shows that the same-sex marriages constantly have to face an obstacles, even in everyday situations. I have selected   two sources. First source, that I will discuss, is the journal written by Greg B. Lewis “Same-Sex Marriage and the 2004 Presidential Election”. The American Political Science Association. 2005. The second source will be the New York Times article “A Victory for Same-Sex Marriage” (Late Edition(East Coast)). New York, N.Y.: 2008. Pg.A.22
In the “Same-Sex Marriage and the 2004 Presidential Election” Lewis shows that the same-sex marriage issue had a little overall effect on the presidential election, mainly because of the Iraq ,terrorism and economy issues which were more important to the voters at that time. Nevertheless, the author showed that the gay marriage was a very important issue in the presidential race.
“A Victory for Same-Sex Marriage” describes the situation where Lisa Ann Golden’s health care benefits application was denied by an upstate college. The school didn’t want to recognized her marriage with a Patricia Martinez, a word-processing supervisor at that college, as a legal union, on the grounds that the State of New York never recognized that marriage.
By the decision of a New York appeals court Patricia Martinez won her case against the college, and her marriage to Lisa Golden was legally recognized.
