A Pillow of Winds   Throughout the generations music has always been a significant influence on the society and in people’s way of living. Every day music fills the spaces in a person’s life that otherwise would be spent in the silence of a dull consciousness. It’s the music that allows one’s mind to escape its usual boundaries into a world of imagination. The legendary Pink Floyd is one band that intrigued listeners in more ways than just the sense of sound. The meanings and poetic verses of their music transcend over thousands of other artists before, during, and after their time. One particular track belonging to Pink Floyd extremely exemplifies poetic music that should be included in universal poetry books. A Pillow of Winds utilizes closed form poetry, a slow tone, and figurative language such as a metaphor, a simile, personification, synesthesia, and apostrophe to express the symbolism in changes from night to day. It is one of few slow, love songs created by Pink Floyd, and flows just as magically read as it is heard.   If an author were to include this song in a poetry book, it would fall under closed, concrete poetry. The closed-form is revealed with the use of alliteration and end rhymes; ones that repeat initial consonant sounds at the end of the verses. For example, “You lock the door/ the book falls to the floor,”(lines 10-11) specifies the perfect rhyme at the end of the lines that augments the flow of the writing.   The peaceful tone plays an additional role to the easy-going flow of the poem. Lines 23-26 demonstrate the emotions of peaceful rest expressed with one’s love: “The early morning sounds/ And I go down/ Sleepy time when I lie/ withmy love by my side.” Line 20, “Green fields of cold rain/ is falling in a golden dawn,” introduces melodic sounds of euphony that enrich the enlightened feeling of the poetic song.
