The Fans of Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy is an ABC television show that has been going strong for five seasons. It contains thoughtful characters, excellent scripts, and a great deal of drama week after week.   Yet, while this popular show that gets good ratings and has won awards is one of the best shows on television, the fans seem to lack depth.   Many of the things they talk about are superfluous and non substantive.   The fans perhaps are living vicariously through the characters.   The stereotype that fans do not have a life of their own shines through as evidenced by many of the comments that suggest these people are more involved with the show than they are with their own families or friends.   Of course, this may be an overreaction, but in reading the fan site threads, there is a sense that while the followers of Grey's Anatomy are participatory in this new realm of interactivity, the new phenomenon lacks substance.

The television show Grey's Anatomy airs every Thursday night at 9 P.M. Eastern Standard Time.   Created and produced by Shonda Rhimes, Grey's Anatomy may be thought of as a drama, but it contains many comedic moments.   It also has soap opera qualities, particularly because each week there is some suspense that will be resolved.   Of course, it has a soap opera aura mostly because the characters often participate in interwoven plotlines that become quite complex.   The stories involve sex, romance, divorce, and career growth.  
At the ABC site, the cast of characters is described as follows: "Continuing their first year as residents at Seattle Grace Hospital, Meredith, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens and Alex Karev have interns of their own to mentor, including Meredith's half-sister, Lexie Grey.
