Bridging The Gap

In analyzing the poems in the 17th and 18th century, the poetry is written very different then modern poems but in 17th century poems you look for short and jagged poems . In the time of Jack the Ripper, it was a poet named Francis Thompson who was known for writing on things that he went through. It was during that time when another author took him in and he wrote poems like the hounds of heaven, and the poem “The Raven” within the period of 1888. In the same time peroid that Francis Thompon entered the priesthood even though he did not continue to become a priest he continued to write poetry. One of Francis Thompson’s mottos was “Every Scope, by immoderate use, turns to Restraint” and it was also know that Jack the Ripper had a motto that was "I shant quit ripping them till I do buckled.” In terms of Jack the ripper, his motto meant that he would quit ripping when he was dead or found. In Francis Thompson’s poem “Hounds of Heaven,” the one thing that I was able to   analyze in the poem that he wrote was; who fled and how he hid from him and who the he was . In his poem he quoted “I fled down the nights and down the days , 'I hid from him , and under running laughter.” In the 17th century there was a poem I read by Anne Bradstreet and in one of her epitaphs, she wrote for both of her parents she showed love for both of her parents but in her poem it also showed them as role models.   For the Epitaphs, she wrote for her mom; in it she wrote “Here lies a worthy matron of unspotted life, A loving mother and Obedient wife”. In the Epitaph she wrote for her father “Within this tomb a patriot lies that was both pious, just and wise.” The Epitaph for her mother was saying that her mother was a very well respected person and to her father he was always there for his family and he was a very wise person to make decision for his family.

“Take for instance this one of the poems she wrote

Now say, have women worth, or have they none
Or had they some, but with our...
