Ethics on the Workplace
Ethics is a general term for what is often described as the “science (study) of
morality”. In philosophy, ethical behavior is that which is “good” or “right”. The Western
tradition of ethics is sometimes called moral philosophy. This is one part of value theory
(axiology) – the other part is aesthetics- one of the four major branches of philosophy,
alongside metaphysics, epistemology, and logic. Ethics deals with the behavior of a
person and how he or she must act in order to show a sense of decorum and respect to the
society. Business Ethics basically holds the same idea as ethics, but it’s just a subfield. In
order to conform to the laws of business ethics, every company should have
organizational policies, good expectations, professional and trade associations codes, and
avoid moral issues in the workplace. As stated in the book [“the law is an important and
legitimate source of ethical guidance” (Hellriegel). Business Ethics can be said; it is the
law in the workplace and respecting issues such as organizational, discriminatory, or
downsizing in the job. For some individuals it has various meanings, but in the end it
comes to one general idea that is coming to know what is right from wrong and doing the
right thing]. Business Ethics is very important during critical times as well as times for
change. It helps leaders and employees maintain a relationship while doing the right thing
and avoiding conflict. “Perhaps most important, attention to ethics in the workplace helps
ensure that when leaders and managers are struggling in times of crises and confusion,
they retain a strong moral compass”. (Hellriegel). Although many individuals do not
agree that business ethics plays an important role in the workplace, it benefits the
company and even the employees though its policies and laws.
