American Dream

The traditional American Dream states that with hard work, all people can live prosperous, successful lives. Barack Obama reflects this same idea in his Inaugural Address. He believes that any man or woman with the mindset to take risks and not look for short cuts can lead a life with wealth and independence. This is shown in his statement, “Our journey…. has not been the path for the faint-hearted – for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things… who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.” He believes this because he recognizes it to be the way our ancestors reached equality and prosperity. Had it not been for their struggles in their journey to America, their hard labors to support their families, and their bravery and will to fight for their country in times of war, America would not be the powerful nation it is today. Obama also believes that true humility and restraint had to be present to was important on hand and follow through on the best that one can reach.   America being a highly diverse area attracting people from all around its important to keep in mind the equality that was established here that some might not experience in other places. The United States could not function without this freedom and must remain so. Conflicts will always arise but one must try to stay at peace as best as possible in order to succeed.
