Punishment
Punishment is what a person receives when committing a crime. Many people think that most punishment that is given out for certain crimes are not fair. The same scenario goes for the basis of who you are in society will also determine what kind of punishment you receive for any crime. The punishment should fit the crime. Many will think that with the knowledge of knowing what punishment is it should deter crime. There are four types of punishment that are being enforced with crimes are retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation, and social protection. The use of these punishment styles the punishment that will more likely to help deter crime is the retribution.
The four punishment types have been established over time and history of crime to fit the beliefs of society and what society states is fit for the crime. The use of retribution is the act of penalizing the crime on the same basis of the crime committed for example if a person kills another they are punished by being put to death as the crime was the same action they will receive for punishment. The next form of punishment is deterrence which will provide harsh punishment on the basis of steering away people from committing the crime for example if a person is associated will a murder they can be charged as if they committed the murder with a life sentence because of their involvement. The rehabilitation punishment commitment is thought that a person can change and not ever commit the same crime again with psychological help and example of this often seen with sex offenders which are given psychological help to not commit the same crime again. The last punishment is the social protection is the punishment that is often seen today with the affects of many people being placed in jail. This form if punishment is common and has been used for any crime like murder, forgery, and selling drugs.
