During its turbulent 48-year history, affirmative action has been equally admire and denounce the same as an respond to ethnic discrimination. Who introduced the expression affirmative action in 1961 was President Kennedy being a way of restoring unfairness that maintained endurance even with the civil rights laws and constitutional guarantees. Affirmative action main concentration was on education and employment, and entailed that energetic procedures functioned to make sure that blacks and other minorities benefit from similar possibilities like advancement, pay raises, job development, school admittance, and economic assistance that was only offered virtually limited to white individuals. Since the beginning, affirmative action was foreseen as a momentary solution that prospectively would stop when the opportunities equal for every American (Brunner, 2007).
The opponents of affirmative action claim that it brings down the achievements of individuals who are selected due to their social group relatively than their credentials, but the proponents look at affirmative action as the best successful approach to tackle the lengthy persistent crisis of racial discrimination and sexism in the United States (APA Online, 2009). The purpose of this report is to describe the elements of Affirmative Action as it applies to public and private sector employees and how it interacts with Title VII requirements of Equal Employment Opportunities. Furthermore, the report will explain what employers are subject to affirmative action and why, what do the plans required employers to do, and what happens if employers do not meet the goals of the plan.
