Anne Frank

“The Opposing View”

In The Ignored Lesson of Anne Frank, From the Eloquent Essay: 2000 the author was bashing on the Frank family and seeing a different view that almost all of the world sees. The author, Bruno Bettleheim’s purpose on writing this entry was to point out what the Frank family and other Jewish families should have done to save their lives. For example, the Frank family could have chosen to move into separate non-Jewish houses and denied that they were indeed Jewish. The Frank’s chose to stay together as a family and Bettleheim insisted that it was not the right choice. Bettleheim chooses to point mostly the mistakes that the Frank family made.
Bettleheim made himself very clear that he thought the Franks should have done better planning on keeping away from the Nazi’s. He listed several reasons why he thought they could have done a better job, avoiding the Nazi’s and keeping his family safe. He thought that if Mr. Frank had had an exit plan so when the green police did show up Mr. Frank would delay the police while the rest of the family had an exit plan.
Bettleheim does have main points and details to back himself up; as he is trying to put the blame on the Frank family. The Frank family can not help the fact that they are Jewish. They tried as hard as they could to stay together, safely, even though they did forget a couple small things. During the Holocaust many families did not get to stay together as long as the Frank’s did. Many families were caught right away and sent to

concentration camps where they shortly got separated. The author had many strong points and that reading could have persuaded many people.
